How to configure a Program Reward Group

Last updated: September 8, 2026

Overview

Configuring a Reward Group means filling in a single 4-step form that defines everything about how a reward works: the discount your referred customers get, how and when creators earn, the safety rules that protect against fraud, and any cashback. Once saved, you can assign the group to as many programs as you like.

The form is the same whether you're creating a new group or editing an existing one. To open it, go to Reward Groups in the sidebar and click New Reward Group, or open an existing group and click Edit.

This same form now also powers promotions. When you create a promotion on a Reward Group, it opens this form pre-filled with the group's current settings; you adjust the promotion-specific values, which are saved as a temporary override for the promotion window. See 📄 Promotions.

Use this feature when you want to:

  • Define the discount referred customers receive through a creator's link

  • Set how and when creators earn their reward

  • Add safety rules to prevent code leakage and fraud

  • Enable a cashback (loyalty) program for customers

Important behaviors

  • One form, four steps. The same form is used to create and edit — discount rules, Superfiliate reward, safety rules, and cashback.

  • Edits apply immediately. If the group is already assigned to live programs, saving changes propagates to those programs right away. There's no "publish later" step.

Step-by-step

1. Name your Reward Group

Give it a clear, recognizable name (internal only). Tip: include the campaign or season so it's easy to spot in the list.

2. Step 1 — Set discount rules for referred customers

This defines the discount the referred customer receives.

  • Discount type — choose what the discount applies to:

    • Order discount (default): applies to the entire order. No product selection needed. You can still scope it to specific collections under Advanced rules (see the note above).

    • Product discount: applies only to specific products or collections you choose (the entitled products).

    • Buy X, Get Y: the customer must buy specific product(s) to unlock the discount on other product(s). Set the prerequisite products they buy plus the entitled products the discount applies to.

  • Discount amount — choose $ (fixed) or % (percentage, max 100).

  • Minimum requirement — choose one: Minimum cart value (a cart total) or Minimum product quantity (a number of qualifying items).

  • Apply to new customers only — on = first-time customers only; off = returning customers qualify too.

  • Discount Redemption — Just once (default) or Multiple times per customer.

  • Discount Applicability by Purchase Type (subscription shops only) — Both (default), Only subscription, or Only one-time purchase.

  • Limit discounts for subscription — All recurring payments, First payment, or Limited number of payments (set N, minimum 2).

  • Discount combinations — choose which discounts can stack: Product, Order, and/or Shipping discounts.

  • Shopify Collections — attach the collections/products that define your discount type (entitled for Product discount and for Buy X, Get Y).

3. Step 2 — Set Superfiliate reward

This defines how and when creators earn.

  • Minimum conversion value (required): order subtotal after discount that qualifies a conversion.

  • Reward currency: Store credit (default) or Payouts.

  • New customers reward value: $ or % (max 100).

  • Advanced options: reward returning customers, reward subscription renewals (cliff value + limit), redeem limit per order (store credit only), include shipping/taxes in commission, reward delay (hold period), and attribution window (custom-domain shops only).

4. Step 3 — Protect with safety rules

  • Unique Codes via Creator Link: auto-applies a one-time, unique code at checkout so creators share links, not reusable codes — preventing code leakage.

  • Freeze creator's suspicious activity: freezes affected commissions and notifies you in the Activity Center; can be scoped to specific traffic sources (e.g. Google Ads).

5. Step 4 — Set loyalty rewards (cashback)

  • Cashback Credit: % of the order customers earn back (we recommend 5–10%, max 100%).

  • Cashback credit expiration: how long they have to use it (we recommend 90–365 days; default 365).

6. Save and apply

Click Save. The group appears in the list as Unassigned until you connect it to a program from that program's reward configuration step.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

A. Yes, immediately. Saving changes propagates to every assigned program right away. Test carefully on busy production groups.

Q3. Store credit or payouts — what's the difference?
