Instagram Discovery - Triggers & Actions

Last updated: April 30, 2026

Creators Discovery helps you find, qualify, and shortlist creators into Creator Lists. Automations can watch those lists and react when a creator's status inside a list changes, so you can move approved creators straight into the next stage of your program with zero manual handoff.

A quick primer on Creators Lists

A Creators List is a working list of creators pulled from your Discovery searches. Each creator in a list has a status reflecting where they are in your review process (for example, whether you've approved them for outreach).

Automations unlock the power of these lists by letting you run actions the moment a status changes.

Trigger: AI List Creator Status Changed

Fires when a creator in one of your Creators Lists changes status.

Configuration:

  • Creators List (required): pick the Creators List to watch.

  • Creator status (required): the status value that should fire the trigger (for example, Approved).

Common use cases:

  • The moment a creator is marked Approved in a Creators List, enroll them directly into a SuperBrief

  • Send a personalized outreach DM to creators you've just approved

  • Notify your team in a custom Klaviyo metric when a list hits a certain state

  • Start a nurture sequence for creators who move through your Discovery pipeline

The end-to-end "Find → Qualify → Enroll" pattern

The most common automation pattern using Discovery triggers pairs this trigger with the Add a Creator to a SuperBrief action:

  1. Trigger: AI List Creator Status Changed (status = Approved)

  2. Action: Add a Creator to a SuperBrief (select the brief you want them in)

  3. Optional action: Send an email or DM to introduce the brief

This means: every time you approve a creator in Discovery, they're automatically enrolled in your active SuperBrief and receive a personalized invite — no manual copy-paste, no missed creators. See 📄 SuperBrief - Triggers & Actionsfor details on the "Add a Creator" action.

Variables

Discovery triggers expose list context you can use in your emails and DMs:

Variable

What it is

discovery_list_name

The name of the Creators List that fired the trigger

Plus all standard customer.* variables (email, first name, Instagram handle, etc.) for the creator whose status changed.

Tips

  • Name your lists clearly. Because discovery_list_name becomes a merge tag, a well-named list (e.g., "Spring Launch Priority Creators") makes for better email copy.

  • Combine with filters. You can add filters on the creator's own properties — follower count, referral history — to make sure only qualified creators trigger downstream actions.

  • Keep reenterable off unless you specifically want to re-run the automation on every status change. For most "approve creators once" flows, the default (off) is correct.
